‘The Big Leap,’ Atresplayer’s new original series, has already completed its filming. The production, spanning five episodes, narrates one of the most thrilling stories in Spanish sports: the life of Olympic champion Gervasio Deferr; his journey to Olympic success and his fall from grace. Actor Óscar Casas will be the protagonist of ‘The Big Leap,’ stepping into the shoes of the iconic gymnast. Atresplayer will release ‘The Big Leap’ in 2024. ‘The Big Leap’ is a series created by José Rodríguez, based on the biography that Deferr himself recounts in his book of the same name.

The five episodes comprising the series will each last 50 minutes, and filming took place at various locations in the province of Barcelona. This new original fiction from Atresplayer will be available to premium users on the Atresmedia platform. Óscar Casas portrays Olympic champion Gervasio Deferr, a brilliant, perfectionist athlete in his sports career. Deferr won two Olympic gold medals in vaulting at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, as well as a silver medal in floor exercise at Beijing 2008. With a complex and demanding personality, he struggled to manage the delicate balance between success and failure, leading him down a path of self-destruction and excesses that distanced him from family and friends, ultimately causing him to abandon competitive sports.

Completing the cast of ‘The Big Leap’ are Olivia Baglivi, Pau Roca, Greta Fernández, Alfons Nieto, Joaquín Daniel, Carolina Román, Bea Segura, Beka Lemonjawa, Christian Checa, Fran Berenguer, Lucía Juárez, Carlus Fàbrega, Pep Ambròs, Nausicaa Bonnin, Carla Linares, and Salim Daprincee, among others. ‘The Big Leap’ is an Atresmedia Televisión production in collaboration with Diagonal (Banijay Iberia). Montse García, Jordi Frades, and Ignasi Serra serve as executive producers; Jaume Banacolocha is the producer. José Rodríguez is the creator and screenwriter of the series. ‘The Big Leap’ will be directed by Roger Gual, with Marta Creus and David Masllorens overseeing production.
